Runner honors Corona

Slain Davis Police Officer Natalie Corona’s badge number was remembered with every step a Davis runner took over the past weekend.

Ultra marathon runner, Colin Schmitt, a boxing and fitness instructor, started the 224- mile run on Friday to raise awareness of Corona’s sacrifice and money for her scholarship fund.

Corona, the daughter of Colusa County Supervisor Merced and Lupe Corona, of Arbuckle, was 22 years old when she was fatally shot in an ambush on Jan. 10, 2019, while she was investigating a traffic accident in Davis.

Her badge No. 224 has been permanently retired.

The run consisted of 14 clockwise loops around a 15.8 mile course, beginning and ending at Get Fit Davis Sport, which Schmitt owns.

Each lap of the route passed the Davis Police Department where Corona worked.

Schmitt ran the course day and night, finishing the course on Monday. He raised and about $7,000 for the scholarship fund established in Corona’s name. ■
