Lady Bears drops game to Winters

Last Friday, the Pierce Bears met up with Winters Warriors and suffered a loss, 7-4. 

Abby Mendoza placed the Lady Bears on the board with a single on a hard ground ball to center field, advancing Emily Ehrke and Grace Alonso across home plate for a 2-0 Pierce lead. 

Pierce held Winters scoreless in the first inning but gave up two runs on a two-out rally in the bottom of the second, tying the game at 2-2. 

Winters found success on a single fly ball to right field, advancing a runner across home plate for 3-2 Warrior lead. 

Both teams went scoreless in the fourth inning, but Pierce’s Halle Charter singled on a fly ball to center field late in the fifth, sending Gicelle Condrey home and regaining the lead, 3-2.

The bottom of the fifth was a heatbreaker for the Lady bears as Winters claimed five runs. In the top of the sixth, Kylie Stephens scored the last run for Lady Bears offense, giving Winters the 7-4 victory. 

Sierra Murphy pitched six innings, allowing five hits and seven runs while striking out one. The Lady Bears tallied up nine hits with Stephens, Emily Ehrke, and Condrey contributing multiple hits for the offense. 

Pierce stands a 11-13 overall season record and 3-5 in league play. ■
