As of 2019, the Rideout Foundation has been hosting Dancing With Our Stars competition for nine years running. For the previous eight years, $765,000 has been raised and the most recent event on Aug. 22 brought in another $140,557.
After two weeks, the Community Choice Award winner was announced on Monday. From the 5,000 online votes, the winner was Christian Sachs with his pro instructor, Bitsy West. Sachs hails from Colusa County and West currently is a resident.
Each dancer raised $5,000 for their prospective departments. Donna Green and Mark Doering, Jr. had their funds go to Family Birth Center/NICU. Angela Smelser, Jarred Guerrero, Kenny Sowles, and Sachs raised money for the Cancer Center. Elicia Stewart and Sachs raised money for the Emergency Department. Sachs also requested that some of his earnings go towards the Heart & Vascular Institute.
Dancer Directed Funds raised for the Family Birth Center/NICU was $26,464; the Cancer Center received $44,072; the Emergency Department got $19,968; and the Heart & Vascular Institute now have an extra $11,553 to better serve patients.
“Colusa County donations exceeded 11K for the NICU unit,” said Green. “Ultimately, the babies in distress are the real winners.” ■
