Pumpkin Village in Colusa is off to a good start.

The annual event at the Colusa County Fairgrounds had a successful opening to the public on Sunday.

“We had a lot of people right from the very start on opening day,” said Fairgrounds Coordinator Araceli Plaza. “It’s going pretty well.”

Pumpkin Village also welcomed hundreds of elementary school-aged youth from across Colusa County all last week for private events.

Kids enjoyed a number of activities, including the pumpkin patch, hay maze, corn cannon, tomato train, hayride, pumpkin bowling, hay stack climb, obstacle course, monster ball toss, face painting, and many others.

Saturday, Oct. 26, will be the 2019 edition’s final day. The public will have another chance to enjoy the Halloween-themed event when gates open on Saturday at 10 AM. There is no general cost of admission, but children can get a wristband for unlimited activities for $20.

Some events, such as Walk on Water and the Haunted House have separate charges.

Plaza said Pumpkin Village will also host an after hours event from 5-9 PM on Saturday evening.

The after hours event will have a DJ, adult beverages (bar), food, costume contests, and a Cornhole Tournament.

The costume contests for children, pets, and adults, will get underway at 7 PM. To register for the costume contest, visit the Pumpkin Village Community Center located at Pumpkin Village prior to the contest or email araceli@colusacountyfair.com. Prizes will be awarded through third place for kids and adults. First place only will be awarded in the pet division.

The Cornhole Tournament, hosted by the California Cornhole Association, will get underway Saturday at 5 PM. Register the day of the event at Pumpkin Village, beginning at 4 PM. The entry per team is $20. Play will be by rounds to a single elimination.

The Fairgrounds is located at 1303 10th St., Colusa. ■
