Life, as I see it : It’s been two years…

On May 14, Tom and I celebrate two years since we were married at the Badlands Bible Camp in Medora, ND.

It has been understandably a time of adjustment for the both of us. We had been alone (me longer than him), and we are both set in our ways.

It takes time and it takes work to be happy as two when you had for so long been content with being one.

We began this chapter of our lives surrounded by family and friends who love us. In the past two years we have built a good marriage, a good life and started preparing for yet the next chapter.

We bought a second home in North Dakota, and we spend about 6 months out of the year there.

We love Beach, North Dakota, we love our little home there and most of all we love being close to family and friends.

As we plan this chapter; the ultimate goal if to make North Dakota our full-time home.
I get a lot of questions from people who don’t get it. Why would we want to live in a place that gets so cold?

The answer is simple. It isn’t cold all of the time. When it is cold, we have a nice warm house and we know plenty of people there with front end loaders and are willing to clear our drive-way when needed.

I lived in North Dakota for more than 30 years, and I survived.

I called the company from which we lease our campsite at Blue Lake. I told the woman who answered that we wouldn’t be using the site after May 31 this year and that they could lease it to another person. I told her we were in North Dakota in summer now and she got it.

She grew up in Minnesota so she knows it’s not about the weather. It’s about the people, it’s about the life style.

As for now; it is Mother’s Day weekend and also our anniversary. We will leave tomorrow for Mendocino and spend two days on the coast. I’m looking forward to getting away from the packing and the sorting for a couple of days.

Fort Bragg and Mendocino are two of my favorite places to visit. There is something about sleeping with the sound of the waves just outside your window. It’s about peace, appreciation of what God has given us and the calm that comes with it.

I’m a person who just keeps going even when I’m tired, but when I have the opportunity to completely rest and rejuvenate, I take it.

Mother’s Day is a time when we remember our moms. Every year I wish that I had another celebration day with my mother. Mother has been gone several years now; but I still miss her everyday.

She taught me how to work hard, be strong, stand up for me and mine and to love my family.

I’m a fierce Mama Bear not to be crossed if you hurt one of my babies; big or small, adopted or blood.

That is how it should be.

Life is good today. ■
