You have always existed. Your first identity was that of an intelligence. This intelligence was given the gift of a spirit body by perfected, heavenly parents. Therefore, we are all brothers and sisters. It is the work and glory of our Father to bring to pass our immortality and eternal life. There was a point reached, that we could no longer grow in the state we were in.
God then instructed us in the Plan of Salvation. He told us that we would have to leave His presence and that earth had been created so that we would be able to prove ourselves and develop the godlike qualities that He has. He told us that in order to advance, we would need to be tested and to gain experience. This could only be done by obtaining physical bodies. Our existence on this earth is a time to prove ourselves. These bodies are subject to trials and tribulations. This is for our own good. Because we are imperfect, we are weak and will sin. By exercising faith, obeying His word and following His example, we could return, become exalted, and become like our Heavenly Father.
A veil now covers our memories of this premortal existence. This is necessary because God wants us to choose between good and evil. He will not influence our freedom to make decisions. This gift bestowed on us to exercise our choice is called Agency. Ultimately, He wants us all to return to him.
Adam and Eve received the first physical bodies and became the first parents. In the beginning, they walked and talked with God. They were reminded to be fruitful, multiply, and have dominion over. They had both spiritual and physical life because they were not yet mortal. Eve concluded that to obey all God’s commandments she would have to make a choice. She partook of the apple, bringing spiritual death (separation from God) and a physical change. Bless her! She made the choice to put the plan in motion and has achieved a heavenly honor. Angels were then sent to instruct them on how to return to our Heavenly Father.
They taught of Jesus Christ. In our premortal existence, we were told that we would lose our way and would sin. A Savior would be provided and bring us back into the presence of God. He would offer an Atonement. A perfect being would ransom us from sin. Christ would be born in the meridian of time to do the Father’s will and meet the demands of justice with mercy. He lived the prefect live, consummated the Atonement in the Garden of Gethsemane, sealed it on the cross at Calvary, and arose from the tomb. He is the resurrection and the life and now stands as our Advocate to the Father. By Him and through Him we may return to God.
This Great Plan of Happiest has been taught to us from the beginning as well as explained to all Heavenly Father’s prophets to share with us. It is outlined in the Bible and a second witness is provided by the Book of Mormon. Christ lives. Death is but the means to the end of our probation period here on earth. We will all be resurrected and able to return to that God that gifted us life. This is my testimony to you!. ■
