Soccer: Lady Jackets fall short of the goal

Amidst the cold and fog, Williams hosted two conference match-ups last week against Winters and Live Oak.

With key players absent from the field, the Yellowjackets found themselves scoreless last Wednesday against Winters with a 12-0 score.

Back on the field Thursday against the Live Oak Tigers, Williams’ defense started out strong and held the Tigers to a 4-0 score, with five saves at the goal line by Lizet Hernandez.

Despite the Jackets best efforts to push back as much as they could in the second half of the game, the Tigers jumped ahead 8-0.

Determined to not be shut out, Carmen Contreras put the Jackets on the board, 8-1, and a second goal by Giselle Gomez just wasn’t enough, as the Jackets fell short with a 10-2 loss to the Tigers.

“We just ran out of steam towards the end of the second half,” said Williams head coach, Kristi Hill. “Paired with an injury and missing players, we couldn’t keep up with their offense.”

Williams has an away match-up game tonight in Arbuckle at 3:15 PM. ■
