On Tuesday, Jan. 22, the Colusa boys soccer team hosted Winters in a league game and came away with a 2-0 loss.
The RedHawks would have a defensive miscue early in the first half and Winters would capitalize on a shot going into Colusa’s goal to go up 1-0.
The RedHawks battled throughout the first half but could not score the equalizer. Winters would kick in their second goal at the 65 minute mark on a shot from close range, to go up 2-0.
The RedHawks continued to work hard throughout the remainder of the match, but could not find the back of the Winters net. The 2-0 score held to the end.
Colusa had strong defensive play from Jesus Hernandez, Victor Hernandez, Darien Sarabia, Nicolas Lopez and Saul Velez. Also playing well were midfielders Edgar Garcia, Ulises Galvan, Dominic Garcia, and Rodrigo Rodriguez. Forward Leo Guzman also played strong. Colusa Goalkeepers Omar Huerta and Diego Avila both played well, with Huerta having 4 saves in the first half and Avila posting 4 saves in the second half.
COLUSA V. Willows
On Wednesday, Jan. 23, the Colusa Boys soccer team had a tough 3-1 loss against Willows.
Willows would score the first two goals in the first half, before the RedHawks lone goal was put in on a penalty kick taken by midfielder Ulises Galvan. The 2-1 score held to the half.
Colusa would have a few more scoring opportunities in the second half, with one shot hitting the crossbar, but could not find the equalizer, before Willows would put in their third goal at the 45th minute. The 3-1 score held to the end of the match.
Colusa did have strong defensive play from Fullbacks Saul Velez and Victor Hernandez. Goalkeepers Omar Huerta and Diego Avila each had 4 saves.
COLUSA V. liveoak
On Friday, Jan. 24, the Colusa Boys soccer team hosted Live Oak in a SVL match and came away with a convincing 5-1 win.
The RedHawks were prepared for the Lions, and maintained possession for most of the game. Colusa would score their first goal 30 minutes in, on a shot from forward Alejandro Rico, assisted by forward Victor Hernandez.
Nine minutes later Rico would score again to give Colusa a 2-0 lead. He was assisted by fullback Jesus Hernandez. The 2-0 score held to the intermission.
The RedHawks came out into the second half with increased momentum and scored again at the 50th minute on a shot by midfielder Edgar Garcia.
With two minutes left Colusa forward Victor Hernandez would boot in the RedHawks 5th and final goal, assisted by fullback Leo Guzman.
The 5-1 score held to the end. Colusa had strong defensive play from Jesus Hernandez, Leo Guzman, Darien Sarabia, Saul Velez and Nicolas Lopez. Also playing strong was midfielder Rodrigo Rodriguez. RedHawk Goalkeepers Diego Avila and Omar Huerta had good outings with Avila having 4 saves in the first half and Huerta with 3 saves in the second.
COLUSA V. pierce
On Monday, Jan. 28, the Colusa boys soccer team traveled to Arbuckle to take on the Bears in a Sacramento Valley League game and came away with a 3-0 win.
The RedHawks scored their first goal at the 20th minute mark, on a nice shot from midfielder Cesar Dominguez, unassisted. Colusa maintained possession and would score again at the 32nd minute, on a shot from forward Victor Hernandez, assisted by Ulises Galvan.
The 2-0 score held to the half. The RedHawks opened the second half where they left off, dominating the midfield and would score their third goal at the 63rd minute, again off the foot of Victor Hernandez, this time assisted by Cesar Dominguez.
The 3-0 score held to the end of the game. The RedHawks had strong defensive play from Leo Guzman, Saul Velez, Jesus Hernandez and Nicolas Lopez. Also playing well were midfielders Edgar Garcia and Rodrigo Rodriguez. Goalkeeper Diego Avila had a good day, posting 6 saves. Colusa now stands at 7-4-3 in league play and are 8-4-3 overall. Colusa will travel to Los Molinos Thursday. ■
