Pierce High School senior Kylie Stephens earned a first place honor earlier this month at the SVL League Championships in Winters.

Stephens is a lifelong resident of Arbuckle and started her wrestling career at the young age of four. Stephens transferred her junior year from Pioneer High School, in Woodland, but missed out on a year of wrestling with no team available at Pierce.

With the help of the Pierce School Board, and Williams and Yuba City’s administration, Stephens was approved to represent Arbuckle this year, as a wrestler.

Stephens claimed league winner with a 20-8 varsity record, including a second place finish at the Sutter Girls Classic and Panu Classic in Yuba City. After graduation, Stephens will attend Menlo College where she will compete at the college level.

“I would like to thank my coaches from Yuba City and Williams, but most of all my parents for making all of this possible for me,” Stephens said. “Without the help of all these people I wouldn’t have been able to go as far as I did this year. I am extremely grateful for their help.”■
