Mother nature finally broke free last Friday, allowing the Colusa RedHawks baseball team to take to the field for a double header against the Live Oak Lions. The RedHawks racked up both wins over the Lions with final scores of 13-1 and 24-0.
The offensive firepower by the RedHawks in the third inning played a key role towards the first game victory. Christian Lyss, Justin Lee, Ethan Lay, Connor Saso, and Blake Steidlmayer all drove in runs for the 10-0 lead at the bottom of third. Drew Bradbury led Colusa on the mound, pitching three innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out five and walking none. Cole Simmons threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Lyss went three for three and led the offense to a 13-1 victory.
Second game play featured three RedHawks pitchers on the mound, none of which allowed a single hit. Again, the third inning shined for the Redhawks, placing eight runs on the board for 9-0 Colusa lead. Lay and Steidlmayer led the way on offense with multiple hits on the Lions defense. A sure-handed defense also contributed to the RedHawks victory with zero errors. Cody Free had the most chances in the field with nine. Lyss delivered a stellar performance on the mound, surrendering zero runs, striking out five, and no base on balls. Colusa claimed the victory in the no-hitter game, 24-0 over Live Oak.
Colusa sits at 12-2 record on the season. ■
