RedHawks take three out of four wins at Sutter Classic

Colusa RedHawks competed in the Sutter Spring Classic April 16-18, going three for four in the winners bracket.

Colusa 6, Anderson 1

Colusa snagged a lead late in the game against Anderson for their first game play in the tournament. A scoreless game was held until the bottom of the fourth when Anderson scored on a passed ball for a 1-0 lead over the RedHawks. At the top of the fifth, Colusa’s Cody Free singled on a 1-1 count, bringing in three runs paired with a sacrifice fly by Drew Bradbury to bring Conner Saso across the plate to a 4-1 Colusa lead. Justin Lee’s single on a ground ball to left field brought the last two scores of the game in for a RedHawk victory.

Colusa 6, Los Molinos 1

The RedHawks opened up scoring in the first inning with a single line drive to centerfield by Bradbury bringing Clayton Angus over the plate. Leo Guzman’s single on a ground ball advanced Bradbury over home plate for a 2-0 Colusa lead. Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the fifth. Angus stole home on a passed ball and Guzman’s single on a hard ground ball to center field RBI’d Christian Lyss for a 5-0 lead. Colusa grabbed their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth and the win, 6-1.

Colusa 8, Rio Vista 2

RedHawks put up five runs on the sixth inning against Rio Vista last Wednesday. Free singled in the first inning, putting the RedHawks on the board early with a 3-0 lead. Rio Vista scored a solo run in the second inning leaving a 3-1 score. Both teams went scoreless until the sixth inning when a rally by singles, led by Lee, Bradbury and Saso accounted for Colusa’s last five runs of the game and an 8-2 win. Bradbury earned the win for the RedHawks, pitching seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out four, and walking one.

Colusa 5, Woodland 6

Colusa battled for nine innings against Woodland last Thursday in a battle of defenses. Colusa held Woodland to a single run in the first three innings and scored three of their own in the innings for a 3-1 lead. Lyss struck out three in the top of the fourth, holding Woodland scoreless while putting two runs of their own on the board with a home plate steal by Saso and runner Angus for a 5-1 lead. Woodland answered back with two runs in the top of the fifth, lessening the deficit 5-2. The top of the sixth brought offensive power from Woodland as they claimed three runs, tying the game 5-5. Unable to recover, Colusa gave up another run in the top of the eighth, handing them their first and only loss during the Sutter Classic, 6-5.

Colusa has a home conference match-up against Winters on Friday with game time set for 10 AM. The RedHawks hold a 20-5 season record and are 4-0 in league play. â–
