A tough preseason schedule will be exactly what the Princeton Eagles need to stay competitive in the Division VI, California – South 8 Man League, this season. The Eagles will open up the season on their own field against McCloud at 7 PM on Aug 30.
Returning Head Coach Bryan Lex, assisted by Manuel Espinoza, looks to keep the 12 person team on tract this season with a competitive edge to go farther in league play.
“Our goal is to execute and compete at a high level,” said Lex.
Last year’s 8-3 overall record, and 5-2 in league, shows just how consistent the Eagle’s football program is, going 9-3 in the 2017 season and 8-2 in the 2016 season. Six total players will return to the field this season, with just one, Joey Wills, being a senior. Wills returns as the Eagle’s quarterback, coming off a big season last year with a total 2,209 rushing yards.
“Wills had a great season last year in rushing and scoring,” Lex said.
Also returning will be Ivan Espinoza, Jonathan Silva, and Ulises Gutierrez, who will rotate to carry the ball for the Eagles offense. Espinoza was the second highest in rushing yardage last season with 557 yards, 173 in receiving yardage, and will also play back-up quarterback to Espinoza. Silva, Gutierrez, and Espinoza will constitute “the core of the team as leaders,” stated Lex.
“We are a small team who relies on executing fundamentals and physical conditioning,” said Lex. ■
