Williams found success on their second possession of the first quarter with a 25-yard reverse by Aldo Ambriz for a Yellowjacket touchdown. Ambriz lead his team in rushing and receiving yards with five carries for 51 yards and two receptions for 32 yards.
“Aldo stood out on both offense and defense,” said Head Coach Jeff Lemus. “On defense, he had five tackles, five pass break-ups, and two interceptions, one for a 37-yard return.”
Williams found the end zone twice in the first half for a 12-6 lead over the Lions.
Neither team made connections in the third and struggled offensively. Part of Live Oak’s problem stemmed from Williams’ Alan Martinez who led the Jackets defense with 12 tackles, an interception return for a touchdown, two forced fumbles, and a recovery, pushing Williams to the win.
“On defense, we played great,” Lemus said. “We had eight turnovers but our offense struggled all night. We have to get that squared away before Durham on Friday.”
On defense for the Jackets, Jesus Jauregui had seven tackles, one forced fumble, along with two fumble recoveries and Angel Juarez had a fumble recovery.
Williams will host Durham Friday with a 5:30 PM junior varsity time and 7:30 PM for varsity. ■
