Williams defense falls short against Shasta

Williams Yellowjackets traveled far north, last Friday, in a conference match-up against the Mt. Shasta Bears.

The Bears football squad scored a 45-20 victory over the Yellowjackets.

Williams was the first to find the end zone with a rushing touchdown by Emiliano Navarro for a 6-0 Yellowjacket lead. Also, senior Aldo Ambriz and junior Cesar Ambriz were successful in the end zone, aiding towards the push to narrow the score gap.

Shasta’s offense found success in rushing yards, and the team found the end zone eight times throughout the game.

Williams, now at a 0-1 league record, will look to change up their defensive tactics for this week’s home game against University Prep.

“We need to play better in both run defense and pass defense,” said Head Coach Jeff Lemus. “Defensively, we played well at times, but we were not consistent enough to get the win.”

On offense, Mo Hernandez was 10 for 19 for 209 yards. Aldo Ambriz led the team in receptions and yards with six catches for 83 yards and one touchdown. For the Yellowjackets’ defense, Jordan Cano led with 17 tackles, and Alexis Juarez contributed five tackles, three forced fumbles, and one sack.

Williams homecoming game this Friday will host the University Prep Panthers, with game start time at 7:30 PM.

The homecoming parade will start at 3 PM with floats by athletic teams, spirit squad, class floats, and homecoming royalty. The parade route is scheduled to leave the high school and travel south on 11th Street, to E Street, past City Hall, then north on 8th Street and back to the high school.

Junior Varsity starts at 5:30 PM, and the crowning of royalty will be between the JV and Varsity game. During halftime of the varsity game, the spirit squad will present a show and introduce the Williams alumni. ■
