The cold wasn’t a factor last Friday for the Maxwell Panthers as they traveled to Weed for a conference match-up.
Maxwell had both their offense and defense in sync, as they claimed a 54-14 victory.
The Panthers scored their top points of the season in Weed, finding the end zone seven times within four quarters.
Wyatt Hendrix ran in a touchdown off a punt, while Christian Cabrera contributed two rushing touchdowns for 127 yards and three two-point conversions.
Isaiah Cardenas was the top performer for the Panthers, making his way into the end zone four times, including a 45-yard punt return against the Cougars’ defense.
Dillon Dry progressed Maxwell’s offense with 17 rushing yards towards a first down. Trent Hendrix scored off a quarterback sneak and went six for nine on completions for a total of 124 yards. Maxwell held Weed scoreless in the first half and continued their forward progress in the second half with a 46-yard pass to Jose Oliveras for a first down. On defense, Nacho Velazquez leads with seven solo tackles and one assist.
“This was a great team win,” said Head Coach Russ Jones. “Everyone did their job, and the scoreboard reflects it. Now we will focus on doing the same against Los Molinos.”
Maxwell will hold their homecoming and senior night on Friday against visitors, the Los Molinos Bulldogs.
Senior presentation and homecoming coronation will commence at 5:30 PM with the varsity game at 7 PM. ■
