A total of 13 players from last year’s 4-16-2 squad return this year for the Lady Jackets soccer season.
For her fourth season at Williams, Kristi Hill will again take the helm as head coach.
“We have some good talent coming out,” said Hill “We will have a big squad again this year.”
Among the 13 returning, seven are starters. Hill said junior Jovanna Hernandez, the starting midfielder, will be crucial on the field for big plays. Paolo Orduno will play the outside position and be looked at for her outstanding corner kicks.
Also returning as a big offensive threat is Nayeli Contreras. In the backfield on defense, junior Litzie Leos and senior Lizeth Madrigal will be relied on heavily for their great ball skills and leadership.
Gaining more knowledge of the game and working on formations will be the key focus for Williams soccer this season. While the Lady Jackets are returning an ample amount of last year’s starters, Hill said one thing that stands out for this year is the amount of young newcomers who made the team.
“Some of the new talent to watch will be Brisa Garcia and Alexa Barrera,” stated Hill.
The Williams squad has been on the field for the past couple weeks and will see its first action of the season in an intra-county match-up, in Colusa, Dec. 3 at 3:15 PM. ■
