The Williams soccer team season is underway and with the largest squad in the county. Out of a 33-player roster, just five are returning starters.
In his sixth year of coaching the Yellowjackets, Humberto Guzman will look for newcomers to bring their A game to this year’s team.
“This year, we have Aldo Ambriz,” said Guzman. “His skills will be a big contribution to our season.”
Midfielder Mauricio Morales will be one to watch this year, along with Williams’ best offensive threat to competitors, Samuel Navarro. Perhaps the biggest problem Williams will be facing is the loss of their four-year starting goalie, Diego Jauregui, who graduated last year.
“We have two great team leaders,” said Guzman. “Michael Cervantes and Gerry Gomez will be leaders on the field. Also, Gomez and Navarro will be two players to watch, this year.”
Williams hosts Esparto Thursday with a 5 PM start time. ■
