The Colusa Boys varsity soccer team hosted the Williams Yellowjackets in their first Sacramento Valley League match and came away with a 1-1 tie. Both teams battled throughout the game, with shots taken by both teams, but were just off their mark until the 39th minute, when Williams scored their lone goal just before the half.

Colusa picked up the pace in the second half and had more scoring opportunities, but still could not find the back of the Yellowjackets net until the 70th minute when Colusa was awarded a penalty kick, which was taken by midfielder Ulises Galvan, and made giving him the goal and Colusa the much needed equalizer.

The 1-1 score held to the end of the match. The RedHawks had strong defensive play from fullbacks Jesus Hernandez, Nicolas Lopez, Miguel Torres and Luis Lozano. Also playing well were midfielders Rodrigo Rodriguez, Dominic Garcia and Edgar Garcia. Goalkeeper Diego Avila had a good game posting four saves.

Colusa came out in the second half intent on picking up where they left off, and had many more shots on the Braves’ goal, but were just off the mark.

The RedHawks fourth goal would go in at the 53rd minute, on a penalty kick taken by midfielder Ulises Galvan, kicking it in past the diving keeper.

Colusa would continue to control the midfield and their defense held strong, preserving the 4-0 victory to the end of the game.
