The Colusa man charged with killing his 10-year-old son in a DUI crash in April is back behind bars in Sutter County.
Susanville Police Capt. R. Cochran said SPD officers arrested Tony Daniel Kesterson, 29, on Thursday, when they served a Sutter County warrant for his arrest at a location on Main Street.
Cochran said Kesterson was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Lassen County Jail, before he was transferred back to Sutter County, where court proceedings are set to begin.
The CHP said Nathan was killed around 6:30 PM on April 19, just east of South Tarke Road, in Sutter County.
Kesterson was allegedly traveling about 50 mph when he drove over the westbound lane and hit the wall directly in the path of an oncoming pick-up, driven by Tarjinder Singh, 59, of Sacramento.
Although Singh applied his brakes, he was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting Kesterson’s vehicle, the CHP said. The front of Singh’s 2014 Toyota Tacoma reportedly hit head on into the rear of the Ford Fusion, causing major damage to both vehicles. Singh was not injured, the CHP said.
Nathan, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.
Kesterson was treated for injuries at a local hospital and booked into Sutter County Jail, but was released on reduced bail due to COVID-19.
A $1 million arrest warrant was issued when Kesterson reportedly failed to appear in court. ■
