There were a total of 70 case investigations, up from 61 in June. There were 21 arrests, up from 9 the previous month, of which five were domestic violence and two were DUI. Traffic Citations (25), of which the majority were license violations, speeding, and vehicle registration; Parking Citations (0); Reportable Traffic Accidents (0); One Major Case Investigation involving the arrest of two previously convicted felons during a routine vehicle stop on Market Street, in which both men were found in possession of handguns, ammunition, and narcotics.
The Colusa Police Department also had four reports of vehicles stolen within city limits, which amounts to an incline in stolen vehicles in the past few months. One of the vehicles stolen in July was a work/construction truck with a generator, various tools, and a welder, which were in the bed of the truck. The truck was located about eight hours later, with the work equipment gone. No suspects are in custody, but the case is still being investigated, said Chief of Police Josh Fitch.
The Police Departmentis still actively working on the homicide of Giovanni Alcaraz. The Colusa County District Attorney’s Office and US Marshals Service are assisting in locating the suspect, Christian Suarez, who may have fled to Mexico.
The police department has also seen an increase in new license applications for carrying a concealed weapon (CCW).
