Colusa to host blood drive

Home News Colusa to host blood drive

The First Presbyterian Church, in conjunction with Vitalant, will host a community blood drive, Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 2 – 6 PM.  The blood drive will be in the social hall of the church, which is located at the corner of 4th and Jay Streets.  Donating blood is considered an essential service and is of great benefit to our community.

Due to COVID-19 the following health and safety measures will be followed:

• Social distancing will be observed,

• Masks will be required at all times,

• Face shields are no longer approved for use,

• Temperatures will be taken prior to check-in,

• Vitalant has instituted additional cleaning protocols between donors, and

• Only pre-packaged snacks and drinks will be utilized this year.

To assist with social distancing, appointments are strongly encouraged and may be made on-line at the Vitalant website or you may call 530-893-5433.  To schedule an appointment on-line go to https://donors.vitalant.org.  Go to the Donor Portal or you may register as a Guest.  You will need to select a Blood Drive Code, which is SMFM012.  Click on “Blood Drive Code” and type the code in the search box.  This will take you to the scheduling page.

Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds and be 18 years old.  Sixteen and 17-year old people may donate with a signed parental consent.  Donors should eat well and drink plenty of water prior to donating and must bring a photo ID with them.  There are many benefits to donating blood.  During the screening process donors have their temperature, pulse, and blood pressure taken.  Their blood is tested for hemoglobin level, total cholesterol, and COVID-19 antibodies.  The results are made available to the donor upon request.
