Sheriff deputy promoted to Sergeant

The Colusa County Sheriff’s Office promoted Sergeant Luis Ruiz last week and assigned him to the Patrol Division.

Ruiz began working with the Sheriff’s Office in December of 2018, where he served as a deputy. During this time, he acquired several assignments with the Special Operations and Response (SOAR) team, the Off Highway Vehicles Unit (OHV) team, and assigned as a Field Training Officer, and filled a position as Range Master.

Ruiz also worked for the Colusa City Police Department (CPD) and attended many training courses such as the Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) course, the Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) program, and the Drug Abuse Recognition (DAR) course.  Ruiz also served as a the CPD K9 Handler.

As a lifelong resident of Colusa County, Ruiz attended Pierce High School and graduated class of 2001. He holds an Associates Degree in Automotive Tech from the Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix, AZ. Ruiz served two enlistments in the United States Marine Corps with  several deployments to Afghanistan and Japan. After the military, Ruiz attended the Butte College Police Academy.
