As with the cancellation of most school activities, the 2020 State FBLA Leadership Conference was cancelled as well.
But just as students learned to accept and participate in virtual meetings and events, this year’s elections of FBLA officers were no different.
Colusa High School’s Kelsea Whiting was awarded the title President of California Future Business Leaders of America. Renee Wrysinski was named State Secretary.
“If someone would have told me when I walked into my first FBLA meeting as a freshmen, I would be elected as the California State FBLA State Secretary, I wouldn’t have believed them,” Wrysinski said.
After shifting to an online format, Whiting and Wrysinksi submitted two speeches, made promotional social media graphics, and designed a campaign that explained to delegates their experiences and platforms.
Candidates for office also participated in a video conference caucus session, where they had to answer several questions.
“Waiting for the results to be announced was one of the most stressful times in the whole election process,” stated Wrysinski.
For the small chapter of Colusa FBLA, having two state officers is a huge honor, the new president said.
“This is a dream I have had since I was a freshmen in high school,” said Whiting.
Holding one elected officer position brings great honor but two from the same chapter is an accomplishment like no other, the girls added.
The last state president to be elected from Colusa was over 20 years ago.
“FBLA has quickly become one of my passions, and my involvement in the organization has truly been one of the highlights of my high school experience so far,” said Whiting.
Wrysinski is currently a sophomore and will be holding one of the highest elected positions, typically carried out by seniors in high school.
“I am honored and thankful,” said Whiting. “Having Renee by my side through this experience is such a blessing and I cannot wait to experience this with her. I am excited for the opportunities that lie ahead!”
Whiting and Wrysinski were installed Monday, April 27 via a zoom meeting held by the CAFBLA management team.
In addition to the state officer positions held at Colusa High, Jaspreet Shoker was elected as the Northern Section Secretary-Treasurer
“I am incredibly grateful to Ms Burg, our FBLA advisor, for all her support,’ said Wrysinski. “I wouldn’t be where I am without her and can’t thank her
