The County of Colusa prepares for reopening

Home News The County of Colusa prepares for reopening
Government officials from the County of Colusa, and the Cities of Williams and Colusa announced an effort towards reopening following the expiration of the May 8, local expanded order shelter-in-place.

The County of Colusa announced in a news brief on Friday, May 1, that, “representatives from the County of Colusa and the cities of Williams and Colusa, assembled virtually to develop a collaborative strategy and framework for reopening Colusa County.”

The brief stated, “While Governor Newsom’s Statewide Shelter-in-Place Order remains in effect until further notice, Colusa County’s local Order expires May 8, 2020, at 11:59pm and Dr. Burt is not planning to issue an extension.”

While this may be a relief for many local residents and businesses, the county said it is developing a staggered reopening plan in advance of the Governor lifting the Statewide ‘Safer-at-home’ order.

“The collaborative effort will be led by the County, with the mission to ‘Guide a thoughtful, safe, and measured post COVID-19 economic recovery plan for Colusa County businesses, residents, and stakeholders’.” the brief stated.

The County stated that the Governor’s Executive Order still applies to Colusa County and allows residents to leave their homes for necessities such as essential work, food, medications, healthcare, and exercise.

The County of Colusa also issues local guidelines for Drive-in Church services. In order for local churches to host drive-in church services the county directs that churches ask congregates to stay in their vehicles at all times, with the exception of visiting the restroom upon availability; congregates must wear face coverings and make them available should they need to leave their vehicle; vehicles must keep their windows rolled up; and vehicles or persons outside their vehicles must be distanced 6’ from other vehicles or persons. Additionally, participants, church leaders, or congregates must not have physical contact. The churches are directed to ask any congregate to leave should they not follow the guidelines.

The signed guideline by Colusa County Public Health officer, Gregory Burt, says,” Colusa County’s critical infrastructure, including our local healthcare system, would be crippled by local COVID-19 outbreak. It is important that we work together to ensure this does not happen. All of these precautions are in place for your safety and the safety of other community members. Please follow these guidelines so you can continue to enjoy your worship times.”

As of May 1, the County of Colusa reported a total of 99 individuals tested for COVID-19, three of those tested positive, and 95 testing negative.
