Dana Owens, 56, was traveling southbound around 3:40 PM when for unknown reasons, she made an unsafe turning movement to the right, which sent her 2012 Ford Fusion off the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said Owens’ vehicle crossed over the gravel shoulder and continued through a ditch and fence, before crossing over Gabby Road and into a large tree.
The fatal crash occurred just north of Greenbay Road.
Owens, who was traveling alone in the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries, although she was wearing a seat belt, the CHP said.
Owens was active in the Willows community. She worked for Glenn County Air Pollution Control District, and was a member of the Willows Planning Commission.
