Ercie Lee Lytal (1924-2020)

Ercie Lee (Rutledge) Lytal, 96 of Gridley, CA formerly of Arbuckle was called home on August 18, 2020 at Woodland Hospital. She was surrounded by her children and family. She was the beloved wife of the late Virgil Lee Lytal (Sparky.)

Ercie was born on June 29, 1924 in Chickalah Mountain, AR and traveled to Arbuckle by train in 1942 arriving at the Arbuckle train depot. She lived in Arbuckle until 1998 when she moved to Woodland and subsequently Gridley to be cared for by her daughter. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church while living in Arbuckle.

Anyone that knew Ercie called her “Mamma” and knew her to be the fiercest of prayer warriors. Her love of her Heavenly Father would guide her all of her days and set an example for her entire family.

Ercie is survived by her brother, Don (Clara) Rutledge of Sutter; daughter, Betty (Mervyn) Howell of Gridley; daughter Glenda (Mark) Gustafson of Grimes; and son Virgil (Diana) Lytal of Arbuckle; and Daughter in law, Helen (Robert) Lytal, Arbuckle. She was blessed with 16 grandchildren, Mark (Angela) Gustafson of Yuba City; Patricia Gustafson-Ayala of Woodland; Heidi Gustafson of Yuba City; Stephanie Pasquale of Roseville; Kelissa (Dana) Bennett of Williamsburg, VA; Scott (Susie) Lytal of Arbuckle; Isabella Pineda of Citrus Heights; Jennifer (Adam) Kriner of Brockway, PA; Whitney Tarbox of Roseville; Michael (Abria) Tarbox of Roseville; Michael (Abria) Tarbox of Roseville; Amanda (Michael) Lopez of Palmer, AK;Mikel (Emma) Brunner of Ashland, OR; Melinda (Craig) Wright of Redlands, CA; Robert Lytal of Sacramento; Kathy (Frank) McGowan of Sacramento; and Darcy Lytal of Wilton.

Ercie was also in love with her 27 great-grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Dottie Rutledge, husband Virgil (Sparky) Lytal; siblings Otis Rutledge, Leon Madden and Lilybell McAnaly; Step son Robert Lytal, of Arbuckle, and numerous nieces and nephews and her grandsons, Jeff Howell and William Howell.

Visitation was held Friday, August 28, at 9 am at Arbuckle Christian Fellowship Church located at 702 Hall St Arbuckle, Ca. A graveside service immediately followed at Arbuckle Cemetery, 400 State Highway 99, Arbuckle, CA.

Reception for family was held at the home of Tony and Diana Lytal following services.
