Watchman on the Wall: Rosh Hashanah Happy New Year!

September 18 was Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the year 5781 on God’s calendar. It is interesting that the year 5780 was the Year of Pe, the “Year of the Mouth.” How ironic that it became the year when people were muzzled by a pandemic, ordered to wear masks in order to shop, go to church, go to work, visit with people. Schools were shut down, churches were closed, surgeries were canceled, Christians were ordered by the Governor to not sing!

Well Friday began 5781, the Year of Shin, the “Year of the Teeth” There has been an increasing rumbler of voices speaking up all across the Nation. Christians are no longer the “Silent Majority”. Pastors are suing the Governor over outlandish restrictions like 6’ distancing in the bathrooms with a monitor to be sure it is enforced. There will be no passing of offering plates. There will be no meeting in churches even with Social Distancing. There will be NO SINGING! Therefore Sean Feucht, missionary to Africa and band leader from Redding, California began having services at the beaches and the parks and is leading praise and worship all across the Nation. Every week he is in a different major city and revival is breaking out across the land. Sacramento had 12,000 present at the State Capitol. People are hungry for the Word of God, a sermon of hope, the infilling of the Holy Spirit, baptisms in lakes and rivers and oceans and even the plastic lined beds of trucks filled with water. There is an outpouring of miracles like the deaf and blind and people with fibromyalgia being healed.

September 19-28 is the 10 Days of Repentance culminating in the fast of Yom Kippur. It is now a time of reflection of what we do, say and think. Pastor Joel, of the Arbuckle Community Church gave a stirring, convicting sermon on Sunday from Matthew 5 where Jesus said, “You have heard it said you shall not murder or you will be in danger of judgement, but I say if you are angry and lash out calling your brother a fool,” a moron, a good for nothing, an idiot and insult your neighbor’s intelligence or question his morals, you have hatred and murder in your heart and are in danger of “hell fire” and judgment by God Almighty.

There was a flashback to the remarks, insults, smears, crude jokes, slander, vulgar replies in the news media, Facebook posts, Twitter, Instagram. I have seen and witnessed “murder in the heart” toward people who do not think or act according to YOUR standards.

We are Americans. I defend your right to vote for and to belong to whatever party you choose. I will speak with dignity. I will be spending the next 10 days in deep thought and repentance over the actions of America and my response to those actions. I choose to pray and trust and let my voice be heard without demeaning others. Will you join me?
