As I’ve said time and again, I love Christmas. I’ve been baking and wrapping for weeks. I admit I get caught up in the festivities of it all.
This year will be different than ever before for us.
For more than 40 years, the Craigo Clan has gathered at First Lutheran in Beach, ND for Christmas Eve candlelight service. This year, like so many other things in 2020, that too will change.
Instead, we will gather here at our house for our at-home candlelight service. In truth, I’m excited about this. I’ve been working on a ‘sermon’ that is more storytelling than preaching. I bought little candles, and printed off the words to silent night. Becky will play the ukulele and Gage his guitar. The main purpose is to remember why we celebrate.
We want to focus on the birth of a boy child and the gift he was to all of us.
Christmas is about Him. Although we love the food and the gift giving, bottom line it’s not about those things.
It is about love, sharing, remembering, and giving thanks.
Not everyone has made it through 2020. We have all lost friends, family, and others. Sadly some have lost homes, businesses, and livelihood.
That is why it is so important to keep Christ in Christmas.
Yes, I say Merry Christmas. We are blessed to live in a country where we have the right and the gift of freedom. Just as I have the freedom to believe in Christianity, so do the people with other opinions.
For me and mine, we continue to find the Baby Jesus at the center of our holiday.
God bless you all. Times are tougher than usual, yet still, life continues to be good today.
