On Friday, at the George Floyd Memorial at the corner of George Floyd Avenue in Minneapolis, the gospel was preached, acts and prayers of Racial Reconciliation and forgiveness, and joy erupted into singing and breakdancing. Hearts were united in love and the city was full of joy. God turns our mourning into dancing! But how is this possible? What’s happening? REVIVAL!
God is on the move. With the eyes of the whole world watching, at the very intersection of a horrible atrocity that has shaken the whole earth, a Memorial to George Floyd has been erected. Now at that same intersection, Revival is breaking out. Healings, miracles, water baptisms, preaching, people falling on their knees in the middle of the street crying out to accept Jesus, sharing of God’s love, handing out food and water, people volunteering to clean up, help out, pray.
George Floyd’s family requested that Pastor Charles Kakuku of International Outreach Church, a multi-racial congregation in Burnsville, Minnesota, come and share with a hurting community the healing and forgiveness that is possible through Jesus. On Pentecost Sunday they held a Unity Rally at the George Floyd Memorial and called upon the Name of the Lord to bring healing, racial reconciliation, justice, and peace to our land.
Other groups were called in to assist. Youth With A Mission, Circuit Riders, based in California, Righteous Civility, Worldwide Outreach for Christ Church, community leaders, and pastors have come alongside to share the love of the Gospel. Pastor Curtis, who has had a church in that neighborhood for 38 years, is preaching and calling us to drop our petty differences and come together in love and unity.
Pastor Joshua Lindquist of Global Revival Harvest calls for the church to come out of the closet, to step up and be the change, “I believe that the church can step in and see a move of God, that can bring healing to hearts that can bring justice down from Heaven.”
Christophe Ulysse, a black Canadian Christian leader and YWAM leader based in Kona, Hawaii, is witnessing real change in the neighborhood. “We’re going from pain and hatred to healing and hope. . . Those in the neighborhood are saying this is unprecedented unity. They’re feeling an outpouring of love and hope from this nation.”
More than 50 churches came together on Saturday for Juneteenth Celebration, as the Revival continues with daily preaching, and racial reconciliation.
Jonathan Tremaine Thomas of “Civil Righteousness” shared with Andy Byrd of “Send,” “When a believer carries the peace into a place of conflict, shows up with the intent to release the restraint of Heaven through the Prince of Peace, it’s real! The Lord has been carrying us into the riot zones, and our presence shifts the entire atmosphere.”
Civil Righteousness formed a 10-mile Prayer Chain with 5,000+ Kansas City residents. Awaken the Dawn Tent America is holding 100 Days of Revival Tents across America. On June 21, “We Hear You Documentary Film” was released. In the midst of pain, anger, and frustration, God is raising up His Church to be the change. Will you join the Movement? ■
