Last Sunday marked a return to the Quail Point Hunt Club in Woodland for the Colusa County Ducks Youth Shooting Sports team where they sent three to the podium in the second sporting clays series event of the season.
For the second time in two weeks Jackson Soden and Robert Shadley finished first and second respectively in the Rookie division, which is open to competitors in the fourth or fifth grades, while Wes LaGrande took fifth place.
In the Intermediate Advanced division, comprised of seventh and eighth graders, the Ducks’ Dustin Wurm stood on the medal stand in third, with teammate Tanner Hansen garnering ninth place.
Also recording a spot in the top 10 was Wes LaGrande who ended the day in eighth place amongst the Intermediate Entry contestants who are all in the sixth grade.
With involvement in other sports still limited in California, the number of participants in attendance so far has increased, however, Coach Bruce Hardwick is optimistic about what he has seen thus far from his squad.
“There is a lot more competition this year, and we are starting out very competitive,” said Hardwick.
The Ducks next travel to Raahauge’s Pheasant Club in Dunnigan on October 18 for the third event of the sporting clays season.
