The Maxwell High School Panthers swept two wins on their home court last week, with a 67-42 win over Mercy on Jan. 20, and 60-48 against Esparto on Friday night. But basketball rivals the Biggs Wolverines implemented a halt on the Panthers’ winnings, taking a 68-42 win over Maxwell.
Biggs took the lead in the first quarter with a 18-9 score. In a fatal attempt to lessen the score, Maxwell’s Wyatt Hendrix banked two 3-point shots before the half, but the Wolverines offense exploded to a 33-22 lead.
After the half, Biggs’s Blake Mclean lit up the scoreboard with a series of three pointers, virtually sealing the fate for the Panthers. Unable to climb out of large score deficit, Maxwell faltered to the end.
Isaiah Cardenas led the offensive charge for Maxwell, totaling 18 points. Wyatt Hendrix had a run at the score board with 11 of his own.
Maxwell now holds a 7-7 record and will travel to Core Butte this evening for a 6:30 PM game. ■
