Coming off a 2-1 loss to Hamilton on Jan. 23, the Lady Jackets hosted the Willows Honkers last Friday, but fell short again in the second half with a 3-2 final score.
Williams jumped out to an early lead over the Honkers, scoring within minutes by Brisa Garcia, assisted by Gaby Lopez, for a 1-0 lead. Williams goalie, Trinity Tungasmita, kept hope alive for the Lady Jackets with a plethora of saves.
Willows fought back, catching some net of their own towards the middle of the first half to tie the game.
Assisted by Jovanna Hernandez, Garcia again made a successful shot past the Honkers goalie for a 2-1 score. After the half, the Honkers came out fierce on defense holding Williams from making another point and scoring what would be the winning goal of the game, for a final 3-2 score.
“We were on track in the first half, hustling, passing and playing our game,” said head coach Kristi Hill. “In the end, Willows just wanted it more than we did.”
The Lady Jackets will get a rematch opportunity this evening, when they travel to Willows for a 3:15 PM game. ■
