The Williams Yellowjackets Boys Soccer team ended the Hamilton Braves season with a 1-0 win, on Thursday.

Williams had strong defensive play from fullback Michael Cervantes. Also playing strong defense was Alex Garcia. Williams’ goalkeeper, Heder Gentil, had a great game with 14 saves in the first half, leaving both teams scoreless.

Williams came out in the second half to pressure the Braves, and found success in the middle of the half with a goal from Senior Mauricio Morales, assisted by Emilio Navarro.

Morales’ goal would serve as the only score for both sides, which granted Williams the win.

“I am extremely proud of my group of warriors, who fought every minute of the game yesterday,” said Williams coach Humberto Guzman. “They gave it their all. I knew they were capable of beating the braves.”

The win pushed Williams to the next round of playoffs against the Colusa Redhawks on Tuesday. Details on that game to follow in next week’s issue. ■
