A four-run first inning, on Friday, propelled the Maxwell Lady Panthers to an 11-8 victory over the Mt. Shasta Bears.
The big inning was thanks to several errors by the Bears, and a triple by Laynee Haywood who contributed four RBI’s to the win.
The Bears got things moving in the top of the fourth, loading the bases, and tying the Lady Panthers for a 6-6 score.
The Panthers tallied four runs in the next at bat when freshmen Jocelyn Lazarus hit an in-the-park home run, sealing the win for Maxwell.
Lazarus led things off in the circle for Maxwell, with eight strikeouts, over the seven-inning stretch.
Haywood went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Panthers in hits.
Maxwell will host Chester on Friday with a 4 PM start time. ■
