Multi-vehicle collision kills Sacramento woman

A Sacramento woman was killed and a Georgia man injured in a multi-vehicle crash last week near Williams.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, on State Route 20, between State Route 16 and Mitchell Flats, when Juan Manuel Hernandez Martinez, 23, crashed into the back of a vehicle towing a trailer, causing his 2000 Ford Explorer to cross into the opposite lane and hitting a 2020 Toyota Tundra head on.

Shawn Chaney, 47, of Bonaire, Ga., who was driving the Toyota, suffered moderate injuries, including lacerations to his right hand and complained of pain to the left side. His passenger, a 44 year old Sacramento woman, succumbed to her injuries at Kaiser Hospital.

The CHP said Hernandez Martinez, who was driving a high rate of speed, suffered major injuries, including a broken femur.

The collision is still under investigation.
