Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2021, for 75 year-old Basant Kumari Nair who passed away peacefully in Colusa, California on December 28, 2020, with her family by her side. Basant was born on April 14, 1945 in the Fiji Islands to Rameshwar and Parvati Prasad. Basant resided in the Fiji Islands where she attended public schools. She married her spouse of more than 50 years, Rajendra Nair, and together they raised four children. In 1967, she, along with her spouse and two older children, immigrated to the United States. The family settled in Sacramento for a short time before relocating to Colusa, where they remain.
Basant worked at Valley West Convalescent Home in Williams and later at Colusa Community Hospital before she was unable to work due to her failing health. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, spending time with her children, and her grandchildren.
Basant is survived by her spouse Rajendra Nair of Colusa; children, Krishna Nair of Colusa, Nirupa Nair of Colusa, James [Katrina] Nair of Colusa, and Michelle [David] Hornyak of Colorado. She is also survived her grandchildren Nandita Pillay, Christopher Nair, Nina [Rovil] Chand, Kristy [Nick] Massey, Nicholas Pillay, Isabella Nair, Abigail Nair, Seryna Awan, Olivia Nair, Madison Hornyak, and Noah Hornyak. Great grand-children, Rishabh Chand and Nameera Chand. Other survivors include her siblings, Daya Prasad, Pushpa Singh, Tom [Mary] Prasad, Kushma [Prem] Nath, and John Prasad.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gaya Prasad; sister, Uttra Chand.
Graveside services will take place at the Holycross Catholic Cemetery, 1741 Wescott Rd., Colusa, Ca. ■
