Maxwell softball: easy win, tough loss

In two road games last week, the Panthers achieved a split after first downing CORE Butte on May 12 by a score of 15-4, and then succumbing 6-5 to Lower Lake on May 14.

Against the Lynx, Paige Vierra led the way finishing 3 for 4 and a home run short of the cycle, while Morgan Dennis was 2 for 2 with a double and Shelby Dunlap was 2 for 3.

Others collecting multiple hits in the game were Bailee Haywood who went 2 for 4 with a double, triple and four RBI, Laynee Haywood who drove in a pair of runs on two hits and Jocelyn Lazarus who doubled as part of her two hit day.

It was a joint effort by Lazarus and Bailee Haywood in the circle as the duo combined for eight strikeouts and scattered just five hits.

It got a little tougher two days later in Lower Lake however, as defensive miscues allowed the Trojans to put four unearned runs on the board.

Lazarus tossed six strong innings yielding eight hits while fanning six batters and helped her cause at the plate by finishing 3 for 3 with two RBI.

Vierra, Dunlap and Madi Pearson each recorded three hits for the Panthers, who despite having four runners reach base in the top of the seventh inning could only push one run across the plate.

Maxwell (9-6) played host to Upper Lake on Monday then makes the short trip to Colusa today.
