Williams Men’s Basketball League: Week 2 Summary – 02.19.2012

The second week of the Williams Mens Basketball season was held in Arbuckle on Sunday 19 February. The Redskins defeated the newcomers, Swag by a score of 58-52. The game was a close battle for most of the way, but the combination of the Redskins inside game and some outside shooting kept the Redskins in the lead from the late in the first half and for the rest of the game.

The two times defending Hoosiers met the Bulls in a rematch of last seasons final. In a surprising game, the closely matched teams found themselves level on the scoreboard at 31-31 with about 3 minutes to play. But then the Hoosiers went into one of their patented runs, this time of 10-0, to put the game away at 41-33.

In a game that saw thirteen lead changes the Aces – SWAT battle was a closely contested game. After falling behind early 9-5, the Aces went on a 13-9 run to tie the game. No team could amount much of a lead the rest of the way. The Aces closed the game after a 33-33 tie with a 6-1 run to win 39-34.

La Fortuna, with a revamped front line set the pace and tone of their game with the newly formed Wolves. La Fortuna, with both an inside attack to go with their classical outside shooting, took off to a large and early lead going into half time up 38-22. La Fortuna ran the lead up to 48-25 before settling in the rest of the way. The final score was 61-41.

In a game the will not get points artistry, the Regulators and the Savages found it difficult find the basketball leave alone the basket, in the first half. With a minute to go in the first half that was riddled with turnovers, the scoreboard read 15-6 for the Regulators. The half time score was 15-10. However, the Savages found their game and took control in the second half going on a 17-5 run to go ahead 27-20. Although never in complete control for the balance of the game, the Savages prevailed with a final score of 34-27.■
