The Colusa High School Alumni Association honored a very special staff member from their past at Homecoming Basketball game on February 3, 2012 — CHS Head Custodian Joe Unzueta. Joe worked in the district from 1964 to 1996 and is remembered by all as one of the most positive and hardest working staff members they have ever known.
CHS grad Perry Taylor shared “We knew Joe was our friend, but we also knew what would happen if we did not show respect for our campus. His pride for Colusa HS was an inspiration to all of us.”
Coach Jim Vossler shared “No one is more deserving for their contributions to Colusa Unified than Joe. I will always remember him telling me no matter how tough our opponent was, it was a piece of cake.”
CUSD Business Manager Sheryl Bailey shared “When I started in 1981, Joe would come by the district office with goodies and big smile. He cared about everyone and never had a bad word about others. He was one of the first employees who made me think I had found more than a job.”
CHS grad Ben King summed it up with this statement “When you attend a small high school, a student gets to know the whole high school staff. Sometimes you learn more about the real world from staff rather than the faculty. Joe was a great mentor about what it takes to be someone you count on to help out when you really need it and someone who can be both firm as well as being supportive. Joe is a dedicated father, a great community member and a great guy!”
Joe was presented a plaque by Alumni Association member Jerry Davies.
Thank you Joe for many years of dedicated service and wonderful memories you have provided. Your impact at CHS has been felt by so many and you truly have inspired us!■
