Colusa County Library to Celebrate 100 Years – Friday, September 25

The Colusa County Free Library is 100 years old this year.

It’s almost hard to imagine a time when you could purchase a pound of flour, a sack of chicken feed, and splurge on a new pair of shoes in the same place you checked out a book.

Who remembers the hand charging system where the librarian would insert your prized library card into a clunky machine that mechanically charged the due dates and other information on the pocket card?

Do you remember the first book you checked out?

Memories and historical artifacts and notables will be shared during the Colusa County Library Centennial Celebration held on Friday, September 25, 2015, from 2 PM to 4 PM at the Historic Colusa County Courthouse Gazebo in Downtown Colusa.

Colusa County Librarian, Stacey Zwald-Costello will act as master of ceremonies as a representative for Senator Jim Nielsen presents a joint resolution with Senator James Gallagher   to the Colusa County Library and California State Librarian, Greg Lucas gives his literary memory.

Commencing the Centennial Celebration, the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce will kick off with a symbolic ribbon-cutting and Colusa County Historian, John Morton will present the libraries history to Costello.

The Friends of the Colusa County Library are hosting the event that will also feature sweet treats from local businesses. Additionally, the Friends of the Colusa County Library will be selling special bookplates to help raise funds for future library projects – memberships will also be available.

Guests will mix-and-mingle with fellow neighbors as the Colusa Jazz Band entertains. Additionally, guests are invited to stop by the Colusa County Library, located at 738 Market Street and view a special timeline display, and historic library artifacts.

“We invite everyone to stop by the library that day and browse our display and find a book,” said Costello.
