The autumn season has arrived, and that means Colusa County is gearing up for fall festivals and traditions.
Arbuckle Pumpkin Festival
As quick as the day started, pumpkins were being carted off to their new homes to scare away the ghouls and goblins come All Hallow’s Eve.
On Sunday, October 4, 2015, the Arbuckle Revitalization held its annual Pumpkin Festival with success.
“We had a great turnout,” said ARC Board Member Jacqueline Gonzalez, who was managing the pumpkin booth for the day.
Gonzalez commented that the group had a wide selection of pumpkin varieties ranging in different colors and others covered in warts.
“People seem to love the pumpkins with all the warts,” said Gonzalez, “they were a highly requested item last year, so we made sure we had to make sure we ordered more.”
In addition to the great pumpkin hunt, children were invited to paint their pumpkins while parents browsed the number of craft and farm fresh food vendors for the day.
Scarecrow Contest – Pink October
In support for National Breast Cancer Month, the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce kicks off the festival season with its annual scarecrow contest beginning October 1-8. Businesses across Colusa County will decorate their windows and sidewalks with their best dressed ‘pink’ scarecrow, which will be displayed the entire month of October.
The scarecrows will be judged, and the winners will be announced at the Colusa Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 10.

The Community Foundation of Colusa County is offering a limited supply of pink holiday lights for local businesses to display during the Pink October month.
The lights come in strands of 16’ of 50 lights on white wire for $16, and 33’ of 100 lights on green wire for $26.
