James Mole (1936-2016)


OBIT - Mole, JamesJames (Jim) Carl Mole passed April 6, 2016 in the Santa Maria Hospital surrounded by his family.

Jim was born October 1936 in Shafter, CA to Curby & Alma Mole.

Jim grew up farming with his Dad throughout California and Oregon. By the 7th grade, he was settled in Glenn and farming became his passion. He graduated from Princeton High School and received an AA Degree in Agriculture/Business from CSU, Chico.

He married his high school sweetheart, Lillian Gomes, Colusa in 1957. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage in May 2016.

Jim served in the US Army from 1959-1962 and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. They returned to Taft, Kern County, where he worked in the oil fields. In 1967, they bought an olive/orange orchard on Road N in Orland where they resided for 31 years raising their two children, Lori and Bryan.

Jim continued farming in Glenn and Orland and also worked in the oil and gas industry, primarily Exxon for over 35 years. He took care of the wells in Northern California but also worked down around Santa Maria, Long Beach and Castaic Junction as Operational Supervisor. He transformed the orchard to all olives which he produced for 31 years with Bell Carter Olives. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, traveling and watching his grandsons play football.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Marie Welch.

He is survived by his wife Lillian, daughter Lori, son Bryan (Kim) and 3 grandsons, Ryan (Mattie), Matthew (Amanda) and Troy plus 2 great granddaughters, Audrina and Madison. He is also survived by brother-in-laws Clifford McVey and Wendell Green and nieces and nephews who called him “Uncle Jimmy” – Donna Geisler (Rocky), Chuck Welch, Jim Langford (Erika), Pennie Morejohn (Bob) and Ron McVey.

A funeral service will be held at McNary-Moore Mortuary in Colusa on Tuesday, April 12 at 11am.

A Military Service will be held at the Colusa Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
