The Colusa County Youth Council and Friday Night Live Club, recently received a $5,000 grant from the California Friday Night Live Partnership to implement both parent and student components regarding underage drinking reduction.
The Youth Council and Friday Night Live Club at Colusa High School will sponsor a full week of activities on campus about the risks of underage drinking and drinking and driving. The week’s activities will provide information to parents about social norms around underage drinking among Colusa High school students based off of a survey that the youth council administered.
The week-long event will conclude on Friday, May 6, 2016, with the signing of Casey’s Pledge. Lynn Goodwin, the mother of Casey, who was killed by a drunk driver, will be the guest speaker at this assembly. Students then will be asked to sign pledges not to drink and drive or to get into a car with a drinking driver.
The youth had selected this week before prom and near graduation as these are frequent times when celebrations may include alcohol and the risk of crashes goes up.
Youth will also be participating in other county activities including Behavioral Health’s “Stamp Out Stigma” event.
Parents are invited to attend the rally at Colusa High School on Friday, May 6, 2016.
The Colusa County Youth Council and the Friday Night Live Club are supported by the Colusa County Department of Behavioral Health. The California Friday Night Live Partnership is sponsored by the Tulare County Superintendent of Schools.
