The Colusa County Free Library urges families to: GET READY, GET SET….and GO to your local branch library to sign up for the annual Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is, READ – for the Win!
Running from 5 July through 10 August, each branch will offer a range of weekly activities for children, ages 6-12 that will exercise their minds and encourage a love of reading.
“We’ve planned a fun program for kids to make the library a great place to read, learn, and discover what’s available for their enjoyment,” said Lupe Ramos. Each week will feature new books and crafts that highlight different sports and physical activities, including bowling, bean bag tosses and paper footballs!
Research has shown that kids who participate in summer reading programs avoid the “summer slide,” that can result in detrimental learning loss between school years. “Studies also indicate students who read recreationally outperformed those who don’t. Students read more when they can choose materials based on their own interests,” Lupe Ramos added. “Our library is committed to supporting lifelong learning and educational enrichment for all families.”
You can register your child at any of the branch libraries, from 6 June through 23 June. Please direct any questions to Lupe Ramos, Children’s Program Coordinator, at 530-458-0711.
