Quick response to theft report leads to arrest of Colusa woman on theft, drug charges

A timely report of a theft, a quick response by officers from the Colusa Police Department, and an ensuing search warrant helped lead to the arrest of a Colusa woman on multiple theft and drug-related charges.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, February 5, Colusa Police Department officers responded to a call of a possible theft from a vehicle that just occurred in the Walnut Ranch area of Colusa. The reporting party called the incident into dispatch, giving a description of the vehicle, a tan Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck, leaving the area.

Responding officers located the vehicle on Wescott Road and conducted a traffic stop on Jennifer Lynn Maffei, 38, of Colusa. The owner of the vehicle in the Walnut Ranch area responded to the scene and identified his stolen property in Maffei’s vehicle.

Maffei was arrested for the theft and driving under the influence. After further investigation, officers discovered evidence connecting Maffei to several other thefts throughout the Colusa area. Based on this information, officers executed a search warrant at Maffei’s residence, located the 1000 block of Fremont Street, where additional stolen property, illegal narcotics, and evidence of sales of narcotics were located at her residence. Additional violations of possession of stolen property, identity theft, and conspiracy to commit a felony crime were charged against Maffei. She was booked into the Colusa County Jail. The investigation is still ongoing and officers are sorting through the recovered stolen property in efforts to locate the rightful owners.
