Heritage Preservation Commission looking to form committee for Colusa’s sesquicentennial

While it’s still more than a year away, the Colusa Historical Preservation Committee (HPC) is looking for help in throwing a 150th birthday bash for the City of Colusa.

“We’re few in numbers and light in talent. Anyone willing to help in this, I’m eager to hear from them,” said Vice Chair Jim White. “We would like to have a subcommittee together at least a year in advance.”

The celebration is set to take place in June 2018. Already in the works is an “outdoor drama” put on by Susan Gibbs of Stagehands Theatre, a tour of downtown Colusa, and more. White said that he would like to see the downtown merchants get involved as well.

Time commitments for committee members will vary depending on the activity they wish to undertake, White said, but volunteers should plan to attend HPC meetings to update the commission.

“They would have to attend one brief meeting per month to report on their activity,” White said, adding that meetings typically wrap up in less than an hour.

Historical Preservation Commission meetings take place on the second Tuesday of each month, at 8:30 a.m., at City Hall in Colusa.

“Anybody that can show up at the meetings and come help us is welcome,” HPC Chair John Morton said.

Those interested in volunteering to help with the City of Colusa’s sesquicentennial celebration should contact White at 458-2227.
