Painting for Mary Ann Nation is a way for her to capture nature as she sees it, and then share its beauty with others.
That is why her artwork is seen at a variety of places throughout Northern California, and is often a favorite at the Colusa County Arts Council gallery in downtown Colusa.
Nation’s collection of work is on display at the Market Street gallery through the month of March, and Thursday’s open house and reception is an opportunity for the public to come out to meet her.
Nation, a workshop-trained artist, has been painting for 16 years and a number of talented instructors have influenced her impressionistic style.
Her paintings, most of which are landscapes and seascapes, using the newer water-mixable oils as her medium, are done with a palette knife instead of a brush.
“Doing paintings from clients’ travel photographs has become a favorite endeavor,” Nation said. “The subjects are challenging and the people are pleased to have an original oil of a place of which they have fond memories.”
Nation lives in Colusa with her husband Bob. The couple has three grown children and two grandchildren.
The Colusa County Arts Council artist reception will be held from 5:30 to 7 PM on Thursday, March 9 at the gallery located at 430 Market St. in Colusa. Refreshments will be provided.
