It’s Your Colusa County: Connor Murphy

Connor Murphy

Connor Murphy, 12, of Arbuckle is the perfect example of a hard working young man. For Murphy, 4H is his sport.
“4-H and goats are not really a sport but its what I do,” said Murphy. “Much like training for a sport, livestock has to be your life to be consistently good.”
Murphy not only shows goats but raises them as well.
In 2014, Murphy started with one wether and now has a herd of six Boer doe’s which he breeds, shows and sells under his own business called CM Livestock. Over the years, Murphy has embarked on many journeys with his livestock and has been very successful.
“My biggest accomplishment is winning Reserve Champion 4-H Market Goat and Champion 4-H Born and Bred in Colusa County with a wether I raised out of my own herd,” said Murphy.
This last year Murphy attended Cow Palace Jr Grand Nationals for the first time and won Champion Jr Doe.
“It was a great adventure and my first National win,” Murphy said..
In July of last year Murphy won his first buckle in Showmanship at Tehema County Breeding Goat Show. He also won Champion Jr doe at Boernanza ABGA this year.
Murphy is a life long resident of Arbuckle and his favorite town event is the Arbuckle Car Show. He will begin seventh grade at Lloyd Johnson Junior High in August. ■
