Authorities recover more than $300,000 in stolen property at Williams residence

An employee of a Fresno based construction company used a concealed GPS tracker to locate a stolen trailer in Williams, and ultimately helped authorities to discover more than $300,000 in stolen property at a Williams residence.

Authorities are now looking for James Thomas Vaughn, 50, of Williams – the man they suspect of stealing the property, which was taken from locations in several different cities across Northern California.

“We, and several other agencies from across the state, are seeking a warrant for his arrest,” said Williams Police Sgt. Daniel Mata.

At around 8:05 AM on Friday, the construction company employee contacted the Williams Police Department in regards to a stolen trailer located in the 900 block of Larch Drive in Williams. According to the department, the employee tracked the vehicle to that location using a GPS device concealed in the stolen trailer, which was taken overnight from a PG&E substation in the Yuba City area. The trailer and the tools inside it have a value in excess of $100,000, the Williams Police Department said.

After locating the trailer, the Williams Police Department – in conjunction with investigators from the Colusa County Task Force, the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office, the Colusa County District Attorney’s Office – executed a search warrant at the residence on the 900 block of Larch Drive.

Sgt. Mata said that Vaughn is known to live at that residence, where investigators found an additional $200,000 worth of stolen property, including two enclosed trailers, a Harley Davidson motorcycle, a tow-behind generator, and a large amount of construction tools and supplies. Investigators also found evidence and property from recent thefts at the Love’s Travel Stop and Dollar General Construction sites in Williams, the Williams Police Department said in a press release.

The department added that the investigation is ongoing at this time. Anyone with further information is being asked to contact the department at (530) 473-2661.■
