Colusa Junior Varsity baseball goes 1-1 at Sutter tournament

The Colusa High School Junior Varsity baseball team played a pair of games at the Sutter High School JV tournament on Feb. 28, winning their first match-up against Oroville 10-4 and losing their second to Sutter, 17-0.

Among the top performers for Colusa in their game against Oroville were Xavier Lopez (2-for-3, 3 runs scored), Keith Chavez (2-for-3, three runs scored, RBI), Riley Stice (1-for-3, 3 runs scored, 2 RBI), and Blake Kalfsbeek (3-for-4). Stice pitched three innings for the RedHawks, striking out one batter and allowing just one hit. Keith Chavez pitched two innings, striking out two and allowing one hit.

In a tough outing against a formidable Sutter squad, Lopez was a bright spot, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate. Drew Bradberry pitched three innings for Colusa and commanded the zone well, said head coach Matt Vedo, but Colusa’s defense committed 15 errors behind him.
